Lexington Steele, Mercenary Pictures Establish Social Media Presence;
Lex Counts 80-Plus Wanna-Be Steeles on Facebook

CANOGA PARK, Calif. — Three time AVN Male Performer of the Year and Hall of Famer Lexington Steele is often duplicated, but never replicated — but that's not to say people try.

He's found a whole new kind of imitator on social networking websites. While setting up his official Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1789953224) and fan page for himself and his company, Mercenary Pictures, Steele counted over 80 other profiles in his name, with many of his confidants and colleagues friends of the impostors.

“I want to be clear that the pages I've just established on Facebook are my official pages and my only pages on the site,” he emphasized. “There's been updates put out by these other people claiming to be me and there's people I know who are friending these impostors — I've even had people asking me about what I'd put on my wall before I signed up for Facebook. If you know me personally or professionally, or you're a fan, de-friend any other so-called Lexington Steele and friend me through the pages I've set up.”

Steele said he's even found inquires from the press directed to the faux Steeles. The prospect of being misrepresented through one of his Facebook pretenders is, he said, “chilling and disturbing.”

When Steele set up his official personal Twitter account (http://twitter.com/LexSteele11), he found the same problem, though to a much lesser degree with two impostor Steeles on the microblogging site.

Mercenary Pictures, Steele's company, has also been quietly building its online social profile. Besides the Facebook fan page that serves Mercenary Pictures and himself, the company is also on YouTube and Twitter. The company has also acquired mercenarypictures.net, which will redirect to its main corporate site, mercenarypicturesvideo.com.

“I'm sure a big part of this is that these pretend-Lexington Steeles are hitting on girls saying they're me,” Steele said. “But there's no way they'll ever be able to show up and meet any of them face-to-face.”
