Erotica L.A. 2003

It is 11:30am on Saturday June 21, 2003 and I am in the press room looking out over Halls H and J in the LA Convention Center. Below me the last minute preparations before the second day of Erotica LA are in progress. Even though the start of the show is still 30 minutes away there was already a line of people stretched across the convention center lobby waiting for tickets. If the crowds keep coming it is going to be a busy day.

For those of you who don't know Stormy has this thing for chocolate and ever since I gave her a box after I first interviewed her she has asked for her present whenever I see her. The last time was on the set of one of her movies and I forgot to bring one so this time I was prepared with a box of Godiva chocolates. However, I wasn't prepared for jessica asking where her present was. And since I have known jessica for about 3 years longer then Stormy you can see where I just stepped into "it" big time. Luckily I happened to have a Godiva chocolate bar in the bag for just such an emergency so I did manage to escape with all of my limbs intact but just barely. But let this be a lesson to all of you when dealing with more than one beautiful woman; if you bring one of them a present you better bring all of them one or you are in deep ka-ka.

The show set-up is pretty much the same as last year though you can tell the show has gotten bigger. When you first enter the hall you are greeted by the Digital Playground sound system and banners of the Wicked Girls hanging from the ceiling all the way to the floor. The Wicked booth is in the center of the front row with the Digital Playground booth to their immediate left and AVN to their right.

What was new this year is a huge stage at the back of the hall and a lecture area at the side of the main entrance. While I didn't manage to catch shots of any of the shows on the stage due to the huge crowds all around them it would definitely have been worth my time to do so. There were several fashion shows from different companies featuring male and female models as well as a all male review from Hollywood Men for the ladies. The turn-out for the lectures was also a big surprise to me. Dr. Ava Cadell's lecture on "Ultimate Orgasms for Him and Her" was packed and even though the lecture on Sex Toys didn't happen until 9:30pm on Saturday night it still had over half the room filled.

Another big change that I noted from past shows was the number of women in attendance. If you went out and checked the line you usually saw at least half of the people buying tickets were groups of women or couples. Sue Procko of Sue Procko Public Relations considered this a success since they had intentionally bought spots to court the female audience which had been lacking at previous Erotica LA's.

Now comes a problem I am having with this particular article. You see I spent a lot of time shooting several booths in particular and I would be remiss if I didn't give each of them their due so I am going to give them each an individual page to hold their galleries. Some aren't very big but I felt that each of these companies because of the way the promoted themselves with the press deserved the attention.

The next woman I encounter is the lovely Anika Fox. Now for those of you who don't know Anika runs a web site (www.anikafox.com). Her main focus is her web site but she as done a few movies. This is only the second time I have meet her but she is defiantly someone I am going to be looking for in the future. You can find her in a few DVD's that are out now like New Sensations "Teen Dreams #4" and West Coast Productions "Chasing the Big Ones 18". Anika also had the lovely August (still blonde) with her as well. I don't know of any movies showcasing the new hair style but you can see her as a brunette in Jules Jordan's "Once You Go Black".

Next up was the ladies at the Babylon Entertainment. Now while I am not familiar with there movies I have always loved their choice of women. This time around they brought me the lovely Nyomi Marcela and Kimi Kan. These two gorgeous ladies make me want to start having an Asian Fetish.

Adult Stars Magazine was on hand to showcase the lovely Brittney Skye and Jassie. Unfortunately none of the pictures of Jassie came out to my liking. For those of you unfamiliar with Brittney she can be found in over 92 movies currently though I am only familiar with most of her gonzo work. Jassie used to be under contract with Sin City a year or so ago and I have lost track of what she has been up to recently.

ARK DVD was on hand with the women of Heatwave though this is another booth that is going to get me in trouble. You see I stopped by Sunday morning and talked to Kevin about shooting before the ladies arrived and then never made it back to actually do it. Plus I apparently missed quite a show between Monique and Amber Michaels on Saturday as well. I need to get a radio or something to leave at booths so they can all me when I am missing things. I did manage at one point to get a picture of Michelle Lay before the crowds got too big but considering they also had Lola Lane, Monique, Soleil and Kat Kleevage signing there I consider this a major screw up on my part.

Now we have the lovely women of Suze Randall Photography. For those of you who don't know who Suze is you need to really crawl out from under that rock you have been living under and take a look around. Suze takes some of the most beautiful shots of porn stars and figure models that you have ever seen. I only wish I was half as good as she is. With her this time around were Monique Alexander, Sunny Leone, Charlie Laine and a woman who I think is called Justine but don't quote me on that. Most of these women specialize in girl/girl only work but that doesn't mean you should not take the time to check them out. While I am unfamiliar with Charlie and Justine's work if it is anything like Sunny's and Monique's then I need to get caught up.

There were a couple of glass/acrylic dildo companies on hand but the one that got my attention the most was XXXglass.com. They had Tabitha Stern and Samantha Sterlyng signing for them. These two ladies were all about showing you ways to use the toy of their choice (within the rules of course). Samantha showing the most enthusiasm of the two.

The Seymore Butt's Tushy Girls were on hand to promote Adult DVD Explorer. At any given time they had Mari Possa, Flower and Ashley Long covering the booth and signing autographs. From the looks of the fans these girls were definite crowd pleasers. Seymore's contract girl Avy Scott was also at the show but she stuck to the Mofo Wear booth. While a lot of Seymore's movies aren't out on DVD yet you can still find a couple of Mari and Ashley has appeared in movies for several other companies such as Red Light District and Elegant Angel.

One of the surprises of the show (at least for me) was the appearance of Tera Patrick for the Hollywood Harley-Davidson. I am not going to get into the ongoing legal battle with Tera you can read about that elsewhere on the web but I was surprised that something that obviously had to be set up in advance had taken place with all else going on. I was also surprised by Ms Patrick's attitude. She had never been one who was overtly friendly to fans in my opinion. This is not to say she wasn't nice she just always kept it professional. But at one point I even saw her volunteer to just pose for photographs for the crowd against her managers advice because she hadn't done so yet.

In one of those lucky me instances the two other photographers I was walking around with (Tony and Pat) insisted we stop by the Anarchy Films booth. Now being totally unfamiliar with the company I wasn't too interested in it but I went along any way, thank God. Because there I got to meet the extremely beautiful Simone. I can't tell you a single thing about her other than the fact that she exquisite but man am I happy I tagged along on that one.

VCA's presence at the show could be categorized in one word, subdued. While they had the lovely Cameron Cain and Director Chloe on hand to promote their movies they did not have their contract star Sunset Thomas make an appearance.

Felecia was there promoting her web site as well as Hippy Comix. They also had Kiki Daire signing as well. Now not to be confused with the previous Felecia is Felecia Fox who was on hand to promote her web site. And last but certainly not least was Jewel De'Nyle. She was at the show for LVNI but I never managed to catch her at the booth so I had to stop her in the isle to get these two photos.

By the time the show closed it's doors on Sunday afternoon it had doubled all previous attendance records for an Erotica LA and was considered by all to be a resounding success. Participation seemed to be at an all time high and most people had to be asked to leave once the show ended as they didn't want to go home.
